Xie Lei belongs to the new generation of Chinese artists who have in common a personal introspection as subject of their artistic exploration. He studied in Beijing, London and Paris, where he defended his thesis. His career is just as prestigious: supported by Anne De Villepoix in Paris then Meessen De Clercq in Brussels and invited by the Velasquez Foundation then the Boghossian Foundation for a residence. His painting brings together his multiple cultures, heritages and inspirations. He starts out from reality to explore uncertain or equivocal universes. He undeniably seeks to restore the mystery of painting: to say and not say, to see and not see, to believe and not believe. A juxtaposition that truly fascinates him.
