Miriam Cahn
About
Miriam Cahn is a Swiss artist whose rediscovery and recognition are exceptional.
Miriam Cahn made her name with her charcoal drawings in the 80s and 90s, whose figuration was already powerful and profound. She gained international recognition after her acclaimed participation to the Documenta of Kassel in 1982 and the Venice Biennale in 1984, aged 32 and 34 respectively. In 1995, due to back pain that hindered her from working on her drawings on the floor, she turned to painting and experienced a long and difficult period in her career. However, her work will always be acclaimed by curators and conservators worldwide, especially in Italian and German institutions, for its urgency, existentiality and emotionality. Today, Miriam Cahn is enjoying a major rediscovery and recognition of her oeuvre, particularly since the inaugural exhibition at the Bourse De Commerce in 2021 where her works were exhibited alongside other artists collected by François Pinault. Miriam Cahn is collected by the most important institutions in the world and has been the subject of several museum exhibitions, including one at the Palais De Tokyo in 2023.
