Xie Lei
About
Xie Lei is a Chinese artist living and working in Paris.
Xie Lei studied in Beijing, London and Paris, where he defended his thesis in 2016. He belongs to the new generation of Chinese artists. Their outlooks are international. Neither political tensions nor social issues are part of their centers of interest. His career is as prestigious: supported by Anne De Villepoix in Paris then Meessen De Clercq in Brussels, followed by art galleries in New York and in Sao Paulo (Mendes Wood Gallery among others) and invited by the Velasquez Foundation and the Boghossian Foundation for residences. His painting brings together his multiple cultures, heritages and inspirations. He starts out from reality to explore uncertain or equivocal universes. He undeniably seeks to restore the mystery of painting: to say and not say, to see and not see, to believe and not believe. A juxtaposition that truly fascinates him.
